PHUNDAMENTALS (no prerequisite clinic required.)
On the Phundamentals we look into the correct bike set up needed to have control of your mountain bike in any situation. We teach you how to set up a solid, strong and efficient riding position that really makes a difference to your riding skill and confidence. Without these skills and knowledge it is impossible to develop the more advanced bike handling skills covered in the TRAILMASTER series.
You will learn that weight = traction, develop a completely new approach to using your brakes and learn that if you don't have any weight on your front wheel you aren't going around ANY corners safely! You must be comfortable with this before we start on the next stage. You will also learn the first of our three CORNERING techniques and how to ride steeper / rough terrain in total control
The PHUNDAMENTALS is not just for beginners - it can give experienced riders an exciting new spark in their riding if their old skills feel stale or awkward. Our experience helping hundreds of riders improve indicates that many experienced riders who are self taught hit walls when trying to learn more advanced skills because their basic riding position is poor. The Phundamentals fixes all that for good and gets people rocking again with so much more confidence!
(Maximum 1:7 coach:rider ratio)
TRAILMASTER1 – FLOW (prerequisite - PHUNDAMENTALS)
Having sorted out the basics in the Phundamentals clinic in TRAILMASTER 1 we look at PUMPING and CORNERING in more detail to get you really humming down trails with increased, flow, speed and style.
PUMPING 1 and 2 - We teach you to pump properly and efficiently so that in the future you can begin to enjoy PUMP TRACKS and JUMPS or just milk your local trails for lots of envigorating free speed. We use PUMPING in TRAILMASTER 1 for making traction, developing trust in your tyres and for avoiding nasty obstacles along the trail. Once you're down with these skills you will find it easy to transfer correct pumping technique to pump rollers and jumps in the future.
The other area of focus is CORNERING 2 - FLOW which is where we teach you how to set the bike into a lean properly and rail a bike like a pro to achieve much faster (and safer!) cornering. We CANNOT teach you this until you can keep even weight over your contact patches, hence that is why Phundamentals is key for undoing any bad habits that have formed over the years. Our FLOW cornering techniques blow many people away and make a massive improvment in peoples riding. FUN!!
(Maximum 1:5 coach:rider ratio)
TRAILMASTER 2 – SPEED (prerequisite – TRAILMASTER 1 - FLOW)
Having covered the skills needed to get people riding smoothly and with style and confidence in TRAILMASTER 1 - FLOW we now look at going even faster and how to do it SAFELY! We look at pulling manuals, milking pumping rollers and berms for speed, and managing skids, flicks and drifts when cornering FAST! You will also look into the basic technique of correct bunny hopping that is needed ready for TRAILMASTER 3 and 4
Our advanced PUMPING 3 and CORNERING 3 learning modules form the basis of this clinic and we almost guarantee that having completed it you will be dropping your mates or your local trails and/or standing on the podium more regularly at your local MTB events!
We reduce the number of riders on this clinic to make sure what we cover really makes a difference to your riding (Maximum 1:4 coach:rider ratio)
TRAILMASTER 3 – AIR (prerequisite – TRAILMASTER 1 but doing TM2 as well is a good idea.)
This is our jumping clinic, suited to anyone wanting to make full advantage of good bike speed and lumps and bumps in a trail to pop a little airtime! In this clinic you will learn to float off decent sized DROPS in a trail safely and effortlessly in full control. You will also learn how to spring off a lip for added height and to compress a lip to stay low and fast over jumps. You may also get some coaching in some simple FLIGHT CONTROL techniques to make your time in the air safer and more stylish.
We reduce the number of riders on this clinic to keep it safe and make sure that what we cover really stays in your box of bike skills (Maximum 1:4 coach:rider ratio)
GRAVITYMASTER CLINICS (no prerequisite clinic.)
Our Gravitymaster Clinics are for riders who may be happy with their bike setup, have a solid experience level, and have a preference for riding downhill or enduro style trails. Downhill bikes and/or strong trail bikes will be your ride of choice, and this clinic is designed to skim through our base PHUNDAMENTALS content, to concentrate on riding a bike down a hill competently, safely and fast. Core skills we cover include BRAKING, PUMPING, INTUITIVE/ADVANCED CORNERING and a session on JUMPING technique.
As with our other higher end clinics we reduce the number of riders on GRAVITYMASTER to keep it focused and to make sure that what we cover really adds to your skills toolbox (Maximum 1:5 coach:rider ratio)
TRAILMASTER 4 – ROCK + ROOTS (prerequisite – TM1 but TM2 as well is a good idea.)
This is our new technical ‘MOUNTAIN GOAT’ clinic, suited to anyone who wants to tackle rougher and more technically challenging backcountry trails and come out riding not walking! In this clinic you will learn to balance in completely new ways and develop the ability to stop motionless and recover from line choice mistakes. You will learn the importance of ‘AID-ME’ (ask us later) and learn to manual, pedal wheelie and bunny/side hop like a champion! Technical trail riding is so much fun and this clinic will help you get right amongst it. NEVER WALK AGAIN!
We reduce the number of riders on this clinic to keep it focused and make sure that what we cover really stays in your box of technical bike handling skills (Maximum 1:4 coach:rider ratio)
ONE ON ONE/PRIVATE clinics (no prerequisite clinic.)
Many more advanced or more experienced riders approach us for coaching and for them 1-1 coaching can be a great option if they have very specific needs. This format also often suits riders who are just more comfortable learning in a dedicated one on one environment. Once we have sorted out a riders basic set up and riding position using our PHUNDAMENTALS learning modules (trust us this is SO worthwhile!) we can then customise a learning pathway to suit each individual client’s needs.
We can look at the skills of MANUALING, BUNNY HOPS, ADVANCED CORNERING, TRIALS SKILLS and ADVANCED JUMPING. These skills need to be covered in small groups so either get together with a friend or two (or on your own), and we'll arrange a customised session with one of instructors.
THE PHUNDAMENTALS The Phundamentals is the base clinic in our MTB Skills Clinic learning pathway. In this clinic you will learn how to set and maintain a stable platform which gives you total control of the bike for traction and obstacle absorption. If you think about all of the problem areas; corners, slippery mud/sand/gravel, roots, rocks, braking bumps, drops, jumps etc, they all fit into one or both of those areas. You either slip or skid in the loose surface or have trouble negotiating obstacles. It is amazing how important this riding platform is and how counter-intuitive it is to what we are told or what we "think" is logical. If you have been recommended to do this clinic by your mates, stop reading now and go to the bookings page and choose a date that fits your schedule. Trust them, they loved it for good reason and you will too. Your riding will never be the same again! Read more |
If you are a beginner and are worried it will be too difficult, don't stress, the Phundamentals applies to absolutely everyone and is very simple to do. As long as you can stand up on two legs you'll fit right in and you will notice an instant improvement in your confidence and balance. The Phundamentals is not just a beginners course. Dont forget it was originally developed by the legendary James Dodds to help downhill racers go faster!. If you really feel you may be "above" the Phundamentals please do a One on One clinic (or Private session with mates) which will allow you to move through the learning units more quickly and also cover pumping and cornering.

TRAILMASTER 1 - FLOW The Trailmaster 1 - FLOW clinic is where you start riding like the fast kids by learning to pump for grip and to avoid obstacles. You also learn to rail corners properly to build style and flow into your riding. In this clinic we teach you how to pump efficiently which gets you skipping over objects on the trail in style while making heaps of extra grip. This makes you feel really connected to your bike and the trail. Way cool!! We also look at what we call 'Intuitive cornering' - all of a sudden you are going much faster on your bike and need to know how to carry that extra speed through corners without braking. When the PUMPING and CORNERING skills are combined you will be amazed at how much more flow you have and how free and relaxed you feel on the bike. Our Phundamentals is fantastic but it can be a bit of a stiff step sideways - you have to start somewhere though and Trailmaster 1 sorts all that out and gets you floating along trails in a way you never thought possible " Awesome! TRAILMASTER 2 - SPEED Our Trailmaster 2 - SPEED clinic is geared towards riders who want to push their riding and bike speed to the limits but want to do so safely and with correct technique to minimise the risk of injury. In this clinic we cover PUMPING 3 - the skill of "Wave Pumping". This technique is fairly complex but we break it down into perfect bite sized pieces for our riders. Once mastered riders can stick their bikes to the roughest of trails and downhill tracks to maintain flow / control and can actually milk speed from trail features without pedalling and with minimal effort. VERY cool! With all that extra speed being made on the straights and a desire to go out and drop your friends (and / or win some MTB races!) we then look at our CORNERING 3 Technique and how to maintain speed and "Traction Control" through dusty, dodgy, muddy, rooty, off camber turns. (Plenty of committed railing and drifting, skids and rally flicks!) Lots of speed and roosting turns but above all plenty of explanation of new techniques as simple physics, personal confidence building, control and safety. We also cover the art of manualing to keep the front wheel out of trouble at speed down a trail and set up the correct technique needed for the sweet bunny hopping that is needed in Trailmaster 3 and 4. Smiles guaranteed and this clinic allows you to tame almost any trail! Read more |
Trailmaster 2 - SPEED is like adding a Turbocharger to your riding after doing Trailmaster 1! We recommend it for anyone who likes to (or wants to!) go really fast on a bike and win some races.Trailmaster 2 is also perfect for experienced trailriders not interested in racing who just want to take on wet, muddy and less than perfect winter conditions with increased skill and confidence.

TRAILMASTER 3 - AIR Our Trailmaster 3 - AIR clinic is for anyone wanting to overcome a fear of flying off small to medium sized drops with their wheels level. It is for trail riders wanting to grow wings and pop and float their bikes of roots and natural lips down their local trails. It is also for downhill racers who want to develop the skills to take on the jump lines at DH races and anyone wanting to ride steeper Dirt jump style take off's and landings. Jumping on a bike is not as dangerous as some people with poor technique claim and going fast on a bike down a trail can mean that flight becomes inevitable " (best be prepared!) In this clinic we look at adapting our PUMPING 1 technique to have you floating off small to medium sized drops perfectly, safety and with total control to free you from the basic fear of flight. Next up we look into the magical art of Bunny hopping to get riders making their own jumps out of simple trail features to "double out' sections of trail and float their bike over puddles and rooty sections along a trail. Then follows a study in how to compress the lips of simple table top style jumps safely to stay low and fast "racer style' and how to Spring off the lips of the same jumps to gain extra height and flight time. Finally, throw in some "Flight Control' knowledge and practise time to learn about how to make you're flight time feeler sweeter, safer and more stylish and BOOM! " New wings please! Read more |
Trailmaster 3 - AIR is for anyone who wants to grow some wings, however small or big they want them to become in future. Jumping through the air on a bicycle is one of lifes great pleasures and it need not be a frightening or dangerous excersise with good tuition. You are never too old to fly!
